This inaugural annual dinner and lecture honours the contribution of Bruce Hooley to linguistic research and publication, as well as the leadership of SILA.
The inaugural speaker for the event is Dr Catherine Young, Global Language and Development Services Director for SIL International.
Dr Young has a PhD in Education, a MEd in literacy, and a BEd (Hons) in Applied Education. Catherine served in the Philippines for 23 years in linguistic research, development, literacy and multilingual education. Her research interests include multilingual education, education policy and planning, and participatory development practices.
Dr Young’s lecture will reflect on transforming mission, literacy, and development in ethnolinguistic minority communities.
