Working with communities to find sustainable language solutions

The Gao Language Development Project aims to strengthen local language development projects by providing quality language program management. This project will support the training and development of a local language program manager with skills and knowledge to oversee and support up to 11 translation projects, with the potential to add further language engagements within the Solomon Islands. The project provides for formal academic training, mentoring, salaries and program activities.

Completed language projects

Over the past decade, SILA has assisted in literacy and language development projects across the Asia-Pacific region, including bilingual education programs in China, literacy initiatives in the Solomon Islands, Chad, Nepal, and Papua New Guinea. These projects built local capacity through teacher training, development of educational materials in minority languages, and establishment of community resources that have helped many learners develop literacy skills in the languages they value.

By investing in this tax-deductible fund, you will directly contribute to local communities thriving using the languages they value – through training, language development, literacy and education.
